Default High beams work, low beams don't

I drive a '90 240 Dl and just recently awoke to find that my low-beams don't work. However, if I flash or hold my high beams they will work. This has made for some interesting driving at night. My bulb failure light has been coming on since I bought the car months ago, but only when I press the brakes. I don't think they are directly related. I have searched Google and this forum, and I've been led to believe that it is likely the Bulb Failure Warning Sensor ( the red piece behind the ashtray). However, I don't have the equipment to test to make sure. Can I be fairly certain that this is the issue? Should I go ahead and buy the Sensor? And if so, where do you recommend I buy it?

Headlight relay might be bad it is located on the left side of the car. It is a big silver relay.

PLEASE HELP US!

I have the same problem you do except I cant get my car's registration reneweduntil I relsolve it. I tried a new headlight relay and the problem didnt go away. My rear tail lights dont work either and whenI hold the high beam lever they still dont work. I remember last year that i had this problem and to resolve it ihad to turnthe headlightknob hold in the high beam lever turn the **** to off andthen let go of the high beam lever(its possible that it was a different order). After doing this a bunch it went back tonormal. No such luck this year . The problem randomly came back again andafter a minute off fiddling with the **** and lever couldnt get itto return to normal. Someother switch or relay must be stuck ormaybe its a shorted out wire. Dunno, but if anyone does have any idea it would be realy helpful. Thank YOU!

Did you check the fuses to?
For the taillights check the connections on the taillights.
Also check the bulb failure relay under the dash near the steering column. It is round and red.

All fuses good.
Good tail light connections.
The bulb failer lightgoes onwhen i hit the brakes...I have the right side brake light wired with the left side brake light. So with this im pretty sure the relay works...
Do you know how the bulb failer relay could effect the low beams?

Im not 100% sure if it goes through the relay but all the other major lights in the car go through it.
Pull the relay and open it up and inspect the solder joints really good.
