How to wire 4 speed switch in 80 240
Hi, I am in the process of trying to replace my blower fan in my 1980 240. I have purchased a motor, resister block and 4 speed switch. The wiring is much different from the old 3 speed switch.
How do I wire this switch?? Do I need to take some wires off of the old switch to give my new switch power?? Anybody know how to wire this? It's driving me crazy!
Also, which way should the motor turn? If I'm looking at the passengers side, should it spin to the right or left? Looks like if it was to spin to the right (clockwise) that it would suck air from the vents. I need to determine which way to mount the motor.
Another pain, looks like the motor is too big for the mount, looks like I have to grind out some space.
Anybody have experience with this? Help!
THanks, Mike

RE: How to wire 4 speed switch in 80 240
I've got the motor in, it's an after market 4 speed motor, had to do some grinding on the housing to make it fit. I mounted the motor so that the right side impeller spins counter clockwise, seems to work ok ( I applied power to the red cable and grounded the black to make it spin).
I'm not sure about the 4 speed switch and resistor block though. I don't know if I should pull some of the wires off of the old switch and plug them into the new switch. Don't know if these wires are used for air conditioning and what not. Thats why I was looking for a wiring diagram for the 4 speed conversion. The instructions that came with the motor are very limited.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Got it figured out! Got the fan back together and everything seems to work!.... Well, with exception of the air conditioner. Not sure if its the switch or not. I hear a click when I change the air conditioner temp, but the air conditioner does not turn on.
Any hints as to why the air conditioner will not start?
