Restoration of a 1975 Volvo 242 DL, US spec
Hi there,
I am trying to restore my parents 1975 Volvo, 242 DL, two door, US model. The chassis number is VC24215B-1007760, four speed manual. The original engine was B20F (under two liters, fuel injection) and its original number was 8190-2214. Now the car features a non original, later series Volvo engine and gearbox.
The car is in good condition but it needs nonetheless a restoration. Near the front wind shield there is some bumbles and it surely needs a repaint.
The thing is that in Greece, where I live, the classic car scene is very limited and there are no specialists who can undertake a restoration. So I am thinking of sending the car to a European or even an American Specialist.
Over the past couple of months i managed to collect some parts from Ebay such as original catalogues, door trims, internal equipment etc. Also I found a US specialist who can restore the dash.
I would like the following information:
1. Do you know any specialists who specialize in Volvos (and especially the 240 series) and that can undertake a restoration in Europe (Sweden, UK, France etc) or even in the States? Bare in mind that this is a Volvo and not a Ferrari 250 SWB, so I need a specialist but not a high end, top of the line, surgical-type workshop.
2. Where can I find a period correct engine (I would prefer the more reliable B21F engine or even the B27F, V6 engine) and gearbox (original was a four speed manual)
3. Where can I find the internal equipment such as seats etc?
So your help is very much needed in order to save a beautiful car.
Thanks in advance,
Alexander
