Running rich when cold
I am having a problem with my 1984 240DL. When I start the car afterit sitsall night it runs very rich and blows black smoke. It barely runs until the fuel has burned off, then it is fine. It has new plugs, wires, rotor and cap, air filter, clean throttle body etc.It also has a New Reman mass air meter, and a new engine temp sensor.Valves are adjusted compression good, new timing belt etc. It acts like the ets, but it has been replaced. The engine wiring harness is also new. The car is only getting 22mpg on the hwy. The thermostat is also a 185 and new. The car runs great after it warms up, but this is starting to bug me!!!!!!!
Any ideas? put a resistor on the ets signal wire?
Thanks for any ideas!

RE: Running rich when cold
just a fart in the wind that blows back in your face, but...
How cold is the engine at start-up? I've that it's normal at start-up, with a cold engine, for a rich running condidtion, as the ECU sends more fuel to compensate. Other than that have you tried fuel system cleaner and/or fuel pressure regulator, oxygen sensor?

RE: Running rich when cold
Thanks for the response ...I have put 2 different O2 sensors on it, fuel injectors were pulled and ultrasonic cleaned, The regulator was replaced a few years ago and fuel pressure is normal. The ECU was rebuilt 2 years ago as well. I live in Florida so it is usually about 55 or 60F in the morning. I am thinking one of the fuel injectors is leaking a litte. I have heard of people getting 26-30MPG on the hwy with this set up. I will probably just live with it...Rebuilt mass air flow meters aren't usually great either. I was hoping someone could figure out how to put a resistor on the engine temp sensor to tell the enginge it is running hotter than the ECU thinks...Just a shot in the waft zone!
