Default Shift Handle Rubber Cover

Hello folks, with all this hot weather, the rubber that cover
the Shift Handle, is coming apart, in pieces.
In some cars, you could replace that handle.
Do that can be done on my 940 Turbo wagon ?
Or any tips that you folks can supply, covering
or whatever can be done.... Thanks

You have to replace the handle, it pulls out with some effort. Then get a new or used one and force it down on the shaft.

You said pulls out, just like that, or screw out?
In most cars that I know ( not too many ) the handle screws out.
I do not want to cause any problems or damaged anything.
What about the push buttons?

Thanks

you need to disconnect the wires to the OD button so they can feed up the shift lever which is hollow, and I believe you need to disconnect the push rod for the gear interlock button so you can remove that before you can pull the **** off.

Thanks Folks, seen a little bit complicated without a good view
or understanding, I will keep looking until I find a good
page ( diagram / pict ) showing how to do it.

But.. 10000 of thanks, if you folks know where to download
pages like that, let me know, it is not easy to find anything
for this 1995 Volvo 940 Turbo Wagon.

Thanks again

I just went thru this whole process and this guided me:

https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo...placement.html

I went to a junk yard and found a decent one, which was hard because those shift ***** just melt after years of hot sun baking them. I found a few that I could actually dig my finger into. And just cut the wires to the od button or yank em out if you're going to use your own. And even though the one I found was fairly good(out of a 960 which doesn't have od but they just put a plug in there) it still had some fading to the finish but I found some black, Rustoleum spray paint for plastic, but this was textured for outdoor furniture I believe and it worked great! 2 light coats and it looks brand new. Cost me $3.99 plus paint.

my 92 has the older 'square' style, and its **** is still in good condition, this car is parked outside all the time and has like 240K miles on it.... I wonder if the newer 'round' style are more subject to UV degradation or something?

I think the older ones we're mostly or all plastic and the newer, rounded ones seem to be some type of hard rubber.
