Extra tube on steering rack

Extra tube on steering rack
I recently purchased a 1990 Volvo 240 DL sedan and have been going over it fixing up a few items. While replacing the ball joints I noticed that one of the steering rack boots was torn and needed replacing.
I ordered a couple from FCP Groton and found that the ones delivered are slightly different. I have a CAM/TRW rack so I ordered the ones that have the small end.
The difference is on the large end that connects to the rack. The old one had an extra hole that connects to a tube that runs along the rack to the opposite boot. I suspect that this tube simply balances air pressure between the boots but I'm not sure.
The replacement boots have no such hole for this tube. Does anyone out there know if I can just discard this tube and use the new boots or should I return them for OEM ones?
