Goin for the sleeper look? I'd say an old 240 wagon. Imagine the looks on peoples faces when an old Volvo wagon makes an 11 second pass.....muahahahaha!

I'm kicking the idea of a 302 with a T-5 around....hmmmm.

That wagon is awesome. I would do a wagon for sure...and if you got the welded and fab skills, you can make anything fit.

I'd lose that silly hood scoop. check out swift's 400HP+ 740 build using a small block ford stroker, car looks nearly dead stock from the outside. you could as easily do that with a 240.

you'd be building a race car with a tubular frame and draping the Volvo body parts over it if you really want a competitive dragster... And then you'd have a car that was virtually undrivable on the street in traffic.

good luck. you'll probably need something around 550 BHP (at the flywheel) to break 11s with a 3000 lb car (including driver). a stock volvo 240 is about 3000 lbs wet. I don't think the Dana 30 rear end in a Volvo can handle any more than 300-400HP and that only if you're really ginger about using it, so you'll be building a total car from scratch. when you''re done, it will be a funny car more than a volvo and it won't be any fun to drive in traffic.

Here you go: Proof that Volvos and twin-turbo Chevy V8s belong together

Kenny's 740 was doing 10sec passes @ 580(somehing)whp untill he flipped 14 times on his way to do more dyno tuning. Volvo powered, volvo shifted, volvo rear end, and he drives it on the street
Volvolution - Volvo Forum & Message Board • View topic - 1990 740 GL

Here is his new replacement car, and this time, he is going for 9 sec passes. Kenny's 1990 740 GLE, goin' for 9's - Turbobricks Forums
Right now it dyno'd just over 600 whp. volvo powered, volvo rearend. still being built but he drives on the street.

Rob's 242 did an 11.8sec pass with just shy of 300whp ‪Volvo 242 11.8‬‏ - YouTube
Here is his build thread: Rob Prince's 242 Resurrection - Turbobricks Forums
VOlvo powered, volvo rear end. drives on the street. when it was driving.
