Default water leak into tail light

water (rain) is leaking into drivers side turn signal lens.. any way to stop this? i sucked most of the water out with one of those old school antifreeze testers... lens does not appear to be cracked anywhere..
turn signal bulb is still working lol i have a brand new 'gasket' i could install.. would that help?

I think this is a common problem. If you search the forums I think you will find it multiple times. Some folks drill a hole in the bottom of the lens so that water can drain out. I would install the new gasket since you have it. When it is out, check to ensure that the plastic mounting bracket hasn't warped from heat (also a common problem). If it has, then the new gasket won't help. While you have it out, make sure all contacts are clean and use some dielectric grease to avoid corrosion on the contacts. Bad contacts cause resistance in the circuit which causes heat which causes the plastic to warp.

this is a 240 sedan? bad design, the water from the roof, runs down the rain gutters, then down the sides of the trunk, and is dumped directly onto the top of the turn signals. I've noted that after about 10-15 years, the turn signal plastic gets crazed and water goes right through it. drilling said small (I used a 1/8" drill bit) holes in the lower corners of each lens compartment does help drain them, but the only real fix is to install replacement tail lights every 15 or so years.

they tend to run fine with a bad in tank pump as long as you have at least half a tank of gas, and they'll start to stumble under heavy throttle when you get down below about 1/3 or 1/4 tank. either way, its hard on the main fuel pump when the in-tank pump is bad, you'll hear the main pump straining.

there's a real quick test where you pull a fuse, and use a paperclip to jump power from another always-on fuse to either side of the one you pulled, this will separately power the tank pump and main pump. see In the Tank - 240 Volvo Tank Pump and Sender

you can hear the tank pump by putting your ear near the gas filler pipe, and the main pump under the car is pretty obvious if the door is open and its quiet out. instead of the paper clip, use a jumper wire with alligator clips, then you can turn the tank pump on, and walk around to listen to it.

Default found it..

turned out to be a bad distributor cap and rotor
couldn't hear in tank pump when jumped so that's another issue, but for now running better
put a pic of the culprit in my garage section on this site.
