i have a 240 wagon with the 3 speed +overdrive auto.
Did a major trip this week and it was perfect.
Yesterday it made this very weird noise like the intake to the engine had come off, roaring induction noise and the trans went into a limp mode and was slipping a little no real drive and power not getting to the wheels.
I checked the intake but it is the trans.
Car came good and worked fine , we are on a farm, roads hilly.
Topped up the trans with oils as it was low but no difference.

fault occurred today as well !
Then came good , then back to fault.

Any one have an idea/ had this problem?

Is it the oil strainer blocked perhaps ?
Trans not serviced for ages.
Would like some help please, if it is a terminal fault then pan removal is a waste of time .

Help?

You sure the intake bellows don't have a rip on the underside?

I have a slow tranny fluid leak and I know its low when the gears slip, but topping it up fixes that, the intake noise and lack of power sounds like another issue.

 

Noise is related to the trans operation/ failure.
Comes good for a while and no noise.
Not intake noise just sounds like it, but with power loss to engine.

On later cars is the ECU connected to the trans computer ?

If you could get the rear wheels on jackstands when the problem occurs it might help , then you can hear where its coming from. Used tranny's are cheap anyway.

 

Noise and trans fault come and go.

Most annoying.
Just thought some one had this one ?
