Default code P0705 even after PNP replaced

Help!!

The check engine light came on weeks ago along with the transmission flashing (arrow) light. The engine went into limp mode and I did the prescribed rowing until I found someone to check into the problem. Meanwhile, I purchased a scanner and pulled an error code P0705.

So, Ifound a shop(100 miles away where my sister lives - where I was staying for the week)that was suppose to have a Volvo trained mechanic. They replaced the "Gear Position Sensor" but on the way home some 50 miles into the drive, the check engine light and the tranny flashing light came on. ugh.....I checked the scanner and got the same error code P0705.

What in the world could be causing this? Could it be something as simple as failing to add enough transmission fluid?

thanks!!!

Thanks Tech!

The owner of the shop called me back and thinks that is what the problem is...just means I need to hop in my car and drive up that way to let them fix it. OH well, it could be worse, Huh?

HI Tech!

It does start in N as well as P.

Is that good...bad? I'm getting a little nervous.

Hey Tech!

I bought some ATF, took my car to an Oil/Lube shop where they attempted to flush the fluid. He couldn't unscrew the hose, so he went under the car and drained the ATF from there. He got out about 4 quarts, black, dirty - no good -and after that added 3 fresh quarts. He told me to drive for another 1000 miles, come back and he will check the fluid. We suspect it will be dirty since he couldn't get everything flushed outand plan on draining what is in there now and replacing it with some more fresh.

COOL, HUH!! Whohooo!!

AND my car! it's shifting and driving with no problems.

The check engine light is still on, but the arrow lights are gone. I pulled the code and got the same P0705, but I'm not sure if I was suppose to erase that or not. I'm waiting to hear from the guy who sold me the scanner.

thanks again, Tech!!

The verdict is in!!The dealer came through for me and took really good care of me.They cleared the codes, the check engine light went off and concluded the whole thing could have resulted when the other shop didn't replace the transmission fluid that was lost when they changed the gear sensor switch. Which explains the reason the warning lights went off when I had the trasmission fluid drained and replaced two weeks later.

Now, The dealerhad pulledthe troublecodes a few weeks ago and got P0470 at 332 "Lock up solenoid/open circuit", in addition to the P0705. BUT when they cleared them today, the check engine light went off and it hasn't come on since, telling me not to worry but explaining to bring it back if the light comes back and that is what they will check into.....I think that is what they said. ANYWAY....

They quoted me some figures and told me if the light comes back on again, that is most likely the problem.

Live and learn!

???? So basically, its OK to clear the codes and if the probelm presents again, pull a new set of trouble codes to get an updated TC? Right?? I'm a newbie code scanner...

The car is still not running as sweet as it use too...I will take it back for another ATF drain. Hopefully, that cure everything.

MEANWHILE< I'm having the HOT air blowing from the A/C problem.

BTW - another code scanner question, When Ipull the codes, I should turn the A/C,huh? It kind of dawned on me tonight, but wanted to check with the experts.

Thanks for all your help! If I had not changed the ATF when I did, I would have had a big mess on my hands. Word to the wise....keep an eye on the transmission fluid!

If you are asking if you need to have the heat or ac turned on to pull codes, no you don't. If there is a problem in any system the engine computer controls or takes a sensor input from it stores that code.

Yep it's old but the question is hanging there and I was researching the PNP portion of the thread.
