Default just started head gasket repair

a little back ground.
we have a 95 960 wagon with about 160k miles on it. the radiator busted several years ago and i think it slightly over heated, the wife was driving.
i did several tests over the years and all always came back good, but i new the HG was gone, but it was not that bad.
she ended up driving it this way for over 2 years until it started have starting problems.
my mom wrecked her 93 960 wagon, about 120k miles, so i put her motor in my car.......long story short, it over heated and there went another motor. dont ask!

the car has now been sitting for about a year now. so i went and pulled the head off the 95. man, what a pain getting the head bolts off with it out of the car! i cant imagine trying to put it back on!
so what are the costs to do a basic complete rebuild on the head? the valves look real good, the car did not smoke but there was some pitting around where the water jackets would mate to the head. can these heads be machined?
i am thinking of just machining the head. i dont want to put $500 in the head for this car.

here is my plan.
put the 95 head on the 93 motor that is in the car. drive it for a while. in the mean time, put the 93 head on the 95 motor, put that motor back in the car and sell the 93.?.

any thoughts?
what about value of the 93 motor? would i get more parting the wagon? BTW, i could not sell any parts off my moms car, no one interested. i did strip parts though.

i have the 2 motors and trannies, some front end stuff, some electrical stuff and that is about it.
