SRS Indicator Light
Hello,
I have a problem with my SRS Indicator Light
New to the forum. My teen daughters just bought a 1996 960 Wagon, with 130,00. In overall good shape. One question. The battery is questionable. In an effort to re-load anti-theft radio code that previous owner son locked out, I had to leave the key in acessory which runs some of the lites, and it was 30 degrees. I did have battery charger on 2 amp trickle. Anyways, did this for a little over an hour and then couldn't start car, dead battery. Was able to start it with the battery charger on 10 amp. When I did start it the SBS lite on the dash came on and now stays on while driving. Is it possible a dead or near dead battery is to blame ?? Any other thoughts ?? Has not been an issue the week we've owned the car. Would really like to keep it out of the shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. MBFish.

My SRS light is on on my '93 960. The previous owner changed batteries and ever since he said the SRS light has been on. I'm interested as well if there is a way to reset this light without taking the car into the shop for a costly visit.
It hasn't affected the car at all, but I would like to get rid of this light on my dash. I'll be paying attention to this thread to see if anyone has any ideas.

Sorry, no expeirence with SRS.
However. This is one of those things you may or may not know. I want to make sure you know about the timing belt. These are interference engines, meaning that if the timing belt breaks very bad things will happen to your valves and pistons.
On your year 965 I don't know the interval for timing belt replacement. My 1997 965, Volvo recommends changing it out at 70,000 miles.
If you don't know about the last time it was changed I would have it done ASAP.
Also STRONGLY, consider changing the water pump and tensioner when you have the belt changed.
Good Luck

Well, you will NOT get that SRS light out unless you take it to a Volvo stealer or shop that can reset it for you. They have to hook it up to a computer to get it off. It can be an air bag or seat belt retractor that triggered it. I just had mine reset on our S70 and it has NOT come back on. My mechanic charged me $37 to reset it.
As for the timing belts:
1995 - 1998 are changed every 70,000.
1993 - 1994 are changed every 60,000. https://www.customers.volvocars.com/...intenance.html

960 SRS light
I have a 1997 960 I bought six months ago (130K showing). It needed a brake booster and an instrument cluster. The battery has recently been replaced. Every now and then the SRS light will come. No need to get it reset: I'll drive for a few minutes, stop the car, open and shut the driver's door. SRS light goes away. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the airbag in the driver seat. Power seat does not work and it's clear from the condition of the plastic trim that someone has messed with that stuff. Any thoughts before I dig into it?
