Tortured by Torx
I just acquired a 1995 960-- my first Volvo!
In going through the tool kit from the second owner who sold it to me, I found a tool kit withy three Torx drives on a Felo-type screwdriver handle.
I thought they were Phillips at first, but the owner said, "Oh save those, you will need those and others, but I never made a list of all the Torx you need."
The set includes a T15, T25 and T40, but he says I need several others.
I once helped a guy install an oil cooler hose set on a 850 Turbo, and he had a curved, very small Torx that we used to tighten the collar holding the portions of the oil cooler together
Sizes, brands, configurations all welcome.
Thanks!
In fact, if there's a list of what's needed to carry in a 960 or Volvos in general, beyond the tools included, I'd like to know. Thanks

Not sure what is specific to the 960s but for my 850, I wound up buying a few job specific tools - a) a full set of torx bits and specific sockets (including the really small T8 one that is used to open the cluster when doing an odometer gear repair.) Their are various sizes required for things like the valve cover (again speaking to the 850) and trim. The one torx socket that is handy is the T14 or T16 used to remove the bolts holding the wheel bearings to the knuckle.
Other sized I needed to my set were 16 and 18mm sockets and open ends. For some reason Audis/BMWs use 17/19mm for suspension bolts while Volvos seem to like 16/18s and many metric socket sets skip either the 16 or the 18. At least I haven't found a Volvo part that uses the "triple square" bolts VW/Audis have (still have those tools from my Audi days).
Last is the various allen keys. The front brakes may require a 7mm bit (850s use this to secure the front calipers). Various parts like strut pins and sway bar end links may use an allen bit to hold the pin while loosening the nuts (which in many cases are locking nuts). The size varies - 4mm (maybe 4.5) for end links 5 or 6 mm for strut pins.
Good advise on always use the right style bit/socket...

I hyave searched but not found a single source for T-14 or T-16, even though there are many sources for T-15. Any chance this could what you meant?

yep, that's pretty much what you need to do. I tend to buy the tools when needed - a trip to Sears, Harbor Freight when planning for the job. Since the big torx bolts are unique to specific parts (ie wheel hubs) and can vary model by model, you may just want to look ahead or buy sockets when needed. For the torx bits, those should be a standard part of your toolbox, along with metric allens.

Thanks, appreciate your help. Most people seem pretty unresponsive.
