Power seat ghosts
Ok so this is the story. My 96 850 turbo, had dual power seats installed by the previous owner, which came out of a 98 volvo. One day the passenger recliner works intermintently, the up/down and forward/backward part of the lower seat works fine. A few days later this seat works fine, but the drivers seat develops the same problem. Then a few days later in the morning I go to the car and the passenger seat is fully reclined (ghosts) and won't move. When you toggle the switch on the side of the seat you can hear the motor running but the seat seems locked in position, I can't push it up or down, it's just stuck. I've never heard of many power seats going, extremely unusual for both to go at the same time. I can swap out the control module under the seat with one out of my other 850 to see if that's the problem, I would think not since the motor runswhen you toggle theswitch. Any suggestions? Or maybe I should call a priest for an excorsism.

RE: Power seat ghosts
Sounds like the cable mechanism for the reclining seat back let go. OThers may have a better idea, but it may be such that you have to take the seat out, and take the cover off it to see if you can fix the cable. If I remember correctly, there is a write up on how to do this. Try a search for it and see if you can get more info.

RE: Power seat ghosts
Can't speak to the ghost issue... The seat back problem is common. After a time, the cable housing of the cable that runs the seatback will stretch, and the cable ends inside no longer make contact with their respective sockets. This was just discussed 6 or 7 posts below... here's a link to a seatback repair.https://volvoforums.com/m_88154/tm.htm
