Default 5.6 qt or 6.1 qt Oil Capacity?

The owners manual says oil capacity for 2.4L is 5.6 qt or 6.1 qt on "certain models." How could I tell which one my car is?

Also, which oil filter do you guys recommend?

Lastly, according to the oil viscosity chart, how is that to be interpreted? Is it saying 5w30 should only be used up to 68*F or what?

Thanks in advance!

mine is on the full mark of the dipstick at 5.6 qts with a filter change. Thats also what my manual says - its a 1994 turbo.

Buy 6 quarts.

Then watch the dipstick, not the book.

Make sure you're on level ground, too. Some people forget that form time to time.

I only use OEM or Mann oil filters. Cheap filters can cause head damage.

Buy 6 quarts., but I buy 7 quarts so I must have the larger capacity.

Then watch the dipstick, not the book.

This is what I do too. I also only buy Mann Filters. I also change the rubber gasket on the filler cap and the metal ring on the drain plug. I also use Valvoline 10/40.

I like Fram, but not on a VOLVO !! Use the recommendations above.

Drain oil, change filter (been using Bosch), drop in 5 quarts, start engine for a minute or so and then shut down. Wait a couple minutes for the oil to drain back to the pan and check the stick. Best way to find out what it takes to fill yours. Repeat (no,don't drain it again ), adding oil and letting it drain, stick until full.

My 1995 2.3 turbo I drop in six. It puts me on the stick but not full. I have a bit of a leak so a month or two down the road and it will take another quart.

Remember to aim !!!!!
