850 Wagon - Rear Lights, locks and handbrake
Hi All,
Well I have returned to the Volvo fold, with a 95 850 Turbo wagon.
Seems to be in relatively nice condition and has covered 145k miles. Few little ****les that I will need to address and I thought I'd ask if any of them are common issues or have previously been covered.
1. My rear lens on both sides have 'faded' or 'hazed'. Is their anyway to polish this out or am I forced to look for replacements?
2. My drivers door lock only controls that door, not the central locking, that works fine if you lock it from the passenger door, any hints?
3. The parking brake simply doesn't work, it goes right up with virutally no resistance. The brakes feel good in general. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for tolerating my simplistic questons
Mick

First you are better off buying another set of lights. If you can try to find a set of V70 lights.
Most likely the latch assembly is bad.
You can try to adjust it first.Open the center console.Remove the little cover in the bottom of the console. Then towards the front you should see a Torxes screw.Tighten that and it will tighten the cables.

Hi Tech,
Thanks for the extremely helpful response.
I'll try the cable adjustment, at the centre console, first and see where we go from there. The latch, well I'll address but not in a panic, first I want to get the brake done and get the car inspected.
My real question is this, I'm going to take your advice and go with V70 lights, my local salvage yard has some from 98, 99 and 2000 models. If I go for the V70 and not the 850 lights, will I require any change in wiring? I haven't looked at it yet, but I presume that the lights are attached and accessed from inside the back of the wagon?
Many thanks,

As far as I know the wiring is all the same.I know alot of people have switched to the newer lights. They look better and last longer. No one has ever said they had to change the wiring.
Yes you access the nuts to remove from inside behind the plastic trim panels.

RE: 850 Wagon - Rear Lights, locks and handbrake
Hi Tech,
Thanks again.
I realised when I tried to do this that the largest Torq I have is one size down, so I'll grab one, BUT, having said that I started to tighten and at one point it seemed like a little resistance had been created, but then when pulling the brake lever up, it appeared to 'jump' and again no resistance.
I got the screw fairly tight and the handbrake is starting to stiffen a tiny bit, but with no affect on the brakes. Is it likely that I have to get it very tight, or is the probability that the rear handbrake shoes are shot?
Grateful as always for your input.
