Hi there, I have an 1994 850 turbo wagon. Some strange things have been happening for a while and now the car sometimes won't start.

a couple months back the car wouldn't start. It turned over but just wouldn't start. I turned the car off and tried it again, same thing. Then I put in in nuetral and it started right up. Drove it almost every day for a month without any problems and then the same thing happened. It finally started and drove again for a week and then it did it again. This time it took many more tries before it started. now its fine again.

The other issues that I'm not sure if they are related are the interior lights pulse slightly. Most people probably wouldn't notice it. This has been going on for a long time way before the starting issue.

Recently, I will go to lock the car with the remote and it won't lock but the hatch back is locked. I unlock the hatchback with the key and then I can lock it with the remote. Strange??

Also well before the starting issue the check engine light was coming on here and there and was told it was a code for the knock sensor.

Lastly, for almost 3 years now the abs trac lights come on and off.


Does any of this seem weird or connected. Any ideas to check? The check engine light is still always on as I haven't fixed the knock sensor.



Now not related I was told that the buzzing coming from near my grab handle on the drivers side is from worn bearings in a little fan motor up there, does anyone know how to stop the buz.

For the starting problem when it happens follow the link and learn how to pull the codes yourself so you can see what codes are there. This is when it won't start.

The lights im not to sure about I have noticed some cars do it and others don't.

The hatch lock is most likely bad and shorting the system.

Use method above to pull the ABS codes as well and then I have a list of the codes. Post the code and I will tell you where to look.

 

The ABS/TRACS light flickering or coming on/off, is most likely the ignition switch. You can tell by wiggleing the key after its started up, if the light turns off when you do this, it's probably the switch... Very easy to change...only took me 20 minutes with most the time spent trying to put the plastic steering wheel cover back on. This link has info on it.
