Default 96 Platinum Turbo boosting 5 psi up to 7 psi stock

Ok finally got the boost gauge installed in my new to me 96 platinum edition turbo wagon. I felt as though the car wasnt boosting very much. After installing the gauge, i see it peaks at 5 psi and goes up to 7 psi max in like 3rd gear. Usuaully stays in 5 psi range first couple of gears. Already did complete stage zero and replaced all hoses. Im assuming this is just set so low from the factory or maybe the guy i bought it from (65) had it turned down. When i did see it go to 7 psi it spiked up to 10 psi during shifting. Ive always thought these things would push 9-10 psi stock. Anyways going to install my manual boost controller.

With it spiking up to 10 during shifting, if i set it to 15psi on the mbc, would it be dangerous if it spiked then? If it spiked from 7 to 10 psi im assuming it will spike to like 18 psi for a split second if im running 18 psi. is this ok or would it be dangerous? If dangerous what do you guys set your mbc at to compensate for the occasional spike?

Spiking to 18 PSI will not be a good thing if you are running the stock tune. Even running 15 PSI on the stock tune is not a good thing. I would set the MBC to 12 PSI so that it will not spike past 15 PSI.

yeah i read on another post on here about safest boost on stock 850 turbo. I think ill just set it at 13 max. It wont be that big of a difference to 15. That way if it does spike for a split second, wont be that high.

15psi is the max efficiency for a 15g right? Even with a tuned ecu? If so what will the 16t go to? Better yet an 18t or 19t? Looking for future upgrades
