Head Bolt Torque specs 850 T-5R
Hey Guys need more help. Soon I'll be Torquing the head down. I've found two methods shown below. What are the correct Head Bolts torque specs for a 1995 T-5R 2.3L 5 I'm using new bolts.
METHOD 1 (Haynes Repair Manual)
Stage 1 - 15 lb/ft - follow the pattern.
Stage 2 - 37 lb/ft - follow the pattern.
Stage 3 - an additional 130° - follow the pattern.
The upper half of the cam tower is 12 lb/ft.
METHOD 2
The bolts can be used once after the R&R of the head but that's it...if you have to take it apart again, you'll need to use new bolts (they stretch after awhile). After lubricating them, torque then in 3 stages starting from center and working outward- first, all at 14.75 ft lbs, second, at 44.25 ft lbs, then finally, 130 degrees more. Volvo has a special protractor that is used, but you can make your own with a piece of cardboard with center cut out for the socket. I hope this helps. Btw, if you haven't taken the bolts out yet, you're suppose to loosen them in sequence too...this time starting from the outside working in.
