Code P0410 - Did I fix it? and pics!
Howdy gents.
My wife had the Check Engine light come on the Volvo Wednesday and we finally got around to getting the code read. We went to the Volvo dealer for an oil change and just figured we'd have them read it at the same time....
Guy says, "We'll have to make a service appointment. It takes an hour to download the code to the computer."
So we went to Autozone where it takes all of 5 seconds to pull the code. [8D] Code P0410.
I read up on all the threads here about P0410, printed out a diagram someone linked to of all components involved, and went out to the garage. I couldn't listen for the pump, as we'd just got home from driving 50 miles. Looked at all the wiring I could find, and everything looked good. Check all the plugs and everything was seated properly.
Then I started checking the hoses and vacuum lines when I discovered this:
It was the soft elbow connecting the hard vacuum line going to the airpump check valve. That can't be good. [8D] Luckily, I had some rubber hose/vacuum lines laying around from my Typhoon projects and now I have this:
I figured that by giving it a little more tube to make the connection, it would put less stress on the bend and last longer.
Do you guys think I fixed my problem? I need to head back to Autozone and have the code cleared. Hopefully that's all that was wrong.
On a side note, while I was in there, I discovered this line:
It runs around the drivers side of the engine to the front pass side of the engine. Does it need to be connected to anything or is it just a vent line for something?
I also took a few minutes to clean up the engine bay:
Not too bad for 144,000 on the clock, eh?

Only time will tell for sure.

We'll clear it and see if it comes back.
Did you notice my picture of the "misc vacuum line" ? I'm thinking it's just a vent tube of somesort, but I really don't know. I can take better pics if it'll help.

Somebody told me you can pick up an ODB-II scanner at Harbor Freight pretty cheap.
I did a search and here is what I found:

I just found out about this place a couple months ago and we have a store here in Columbus. They got great prices.

That was a big thing when I got stuff for X-mas from my DAD.
He started it when I was 16 years old. Every X-mas I got to order $100.00 worth of tools from there.
I still use alot of tools from there everyday at work.
Most of what I have is already 14 to 15 years old.

Well, no pictures of the mysterious line yet, but we did get a code scanner at Checker today. $70 for one that has all the trouble codes, etc. I'm not sure if I didn't push the right button, but it didn't clear the code. [8D] [:@] We met up with some car buddies today for a BBQ and someone had a more expensive code scanner and it cleared the CEL. We drove around, and drove the hour home and the code has yet to reappear. We'll see if it resets when my wife starts the car tomorrow... but so far so good!

Look on the end of the intake behind the power steering pump.
Does it have a hose connected or just a plug?
If it just has a plug then look on the other side of the engine where the induction pipe from the air box meets the engine. Is there a hose connected to the electrical valve in the plastic pipe?
If so does it run up under the intake or just to the middle of the intake next to the throttle body?
