Default Doors won't open from inside

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to say this forum is AWESOME!!! I just got a '95 850 GLT Sedan and I'm ready to take on the projects that I found great help with.
The only subject I couldn't find is fixing doors that do not open. My driver door will not open from the inside, it locks and unlocks just fine but when you pull on the handle (from the inside) nothing happens. It feels like something is disconnected. I know the first step is taking off the door panel but what exactly should I be looking for? Does anyone have experience with this and is this pretty common?
As well as the trouble with my driverside door, my right and left back doors do not open from either side (inside or outside). They seem to be permanently locked. I have tried manually unlocking them by pulling on the pin but it feels stuck. So first, How do I get the doors open, so I can pull the panels off? And what should I be looking for in this case?
Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Yikes!!! I have not heard of that problem, doors will not open from inside or out. Does the power locks work? Can you unlock it from the drivers door then open them?

Same problem here, just happened two days ago. driver's door won't open from inside so I went to the junkyard, saw a 96 850, pulled off the door panel, fiddled with the locking mechanism to find that a special clamp is what connects the interior handle to the lock.
I hope this is the culprit, i'm gonna mess with this on my car saturday...

@rspi, The power locks work just fine. @Vmax, thanks for the pictures. Please post results on the clamp working or not. Good Luck.

Not the clamp, my door has the clamp on there. It seems to be missing a small black plastic piece. I could not find it at the junkyard, i'll try again next month...

Here's a video of what I think is the culprit.

It is a very common issue here in Florida.
I have fixed about 80 of them already. There is 2 bushings that fall apart. Then the rod that actually opens the latch from the inner handle falls out.
Volvo does not sell the bushings for the 850 latch assembly. But you can buy them for the 740 latch setup and install then into the 850 latch and it will be like brand new after that.

Wicked! I'll try that... (off to the junkyard to find a 740) or go to a site that sells new 740 latch setups...

Here is a pic of a latch with the new bushings and rod back in.
I have also had to do all 4 doors on both of my 850's.

I didn't see that 2" metal rod when I took off my panel, maybe it fell in the door itself... I'll go to the dealer to get the rod and bushings. How much they cost you at the time?

Usually you can find the rod in the bottom of the door. The bushings are I believe less than $10.00. I will try to get the bushing part number tomorrow at work.

So, should this be something to check or just replace if the problem has never been addressed? I'm a believer of not fixing what aint broke but if it's something that is going to happen, like a timing belt replacement I think I should do it.

Do, you pull the door panel off and look at the latch?

I have replaced one of those when I had a 740.

Wink

Got four rods and bushings from a 97 R today @ the junkyard. Was a little bit of a pain to install, but works like a charm.

Default Volvo 850 Door wont opne

Thanks for your posting, I have a 94 850 with 3 doors that wont open form the inside.

What does the 740 "latch setup that you mention consist of? Can you suggest a part number and/or an online source for the 740 latch setup? I have the linkage (recovered form inside the door) are the busshings sold as a seperate item?

Thanks again,
Jim

Hi. New guy here with similar concern.
I wish to reunite all contributors here.
