Default Hold brake a while before trans button clicks

Hello there. I was wondering. When I start my 95 glt, and I press on the brake, the trans button does not always click, or you have to wait about 5 seconds before it clicks, and then you can change from Park to any other gear. When the car warms up, it seems to work better, but it does not happen all the time. Lately, it's been; start the car, press brake, release parking brake, and by then the button clicks, and you can then shift gears. It is very rare that I have to use the shift interlock button to release it. What's the problem? Also, if I use the shift interlock too much, will that create some other problems?

There is a micro switch under the center console that goes bad.
Some cars are under a recall for the switch.Check with your local dealer.
The recall is pretty old.

Thanks for the info. One other thing... what would the switch be called if I need to order it?

It is called the shiftlock micro switch.
The dealer will know what you are talking about if you ask for it.
