Default Jack Stands for Oil Change ???

I have just purchased my first Volvo. I would like to change oil this weekend. I found the scissor jack mounting points along the sides of the car. It doesn't appear that those are suitable for jack stands.

Where does everyone put their Hydraulic Jack to lift up the car?

Where does everyone place their Jack Stands?

As long as you put and jack close to the tire area the lip will hold with no problem.
Most shops lift the car bye the lip or as it is called the pinch weld.

Look at this picture it shows where it is safe to jack the car. I just happened to look at it right before reading this as I was browsing the volvospeed website. Robert you mist have just gotten the car. How's everything going? Be sure to post some pictures.

I see that the S80 has a belly pan. Please tell me that the 850 does not have a belly pan. Otherwise, mine is missing.

I see that the S80 uses a cartridge type oil filter. I am glad that our 850's don't. For Kim's 850, I used Hastings LF490. It comes in a Red, Yellow, Navy box labeled Hastings Premium Filters. Based upon outside appearance, it looks exactly like the Volvo filter that came with the car.

I placed my hydraulic jack at the center of the front of engine sub-frame.

I tried to place my jack stands under the hoist lift pad area. The stands wanted to slide around. I didn't know whether that the lip of rocker panel near front wheels would be strong enough or not. I ended up placing my stands at each end of the rear of engine sub-frame.

Since the car was raised on 25K mile AMSOIL 10W40, that is what I decided to stay with.

Yes Jim, after a long two week wait, the car arrived on Friday morning -- in a downpouring rain.
Again, Kim and I thank you for enabling us to find the car -- White 1997 850 VIN S58 with Tan interior with 107K miles.

Kim's car arrives!!!!

CONGRATS

The 850 doesn't come stock with the belly pan.An aftermarket one can be purchased and installed.
