Default Oil in coolant following oil change - 96 850 GLT 2.4L

My daughter's boyfriend 'helped' by changing the oil in our 130K miles plus 96 850 GLT - suddenly OIL LIGHT comes on days later, very little oil on stick, but what's there also has coolant in it - no oil in coolant/radiator though..... car starts fine, runs rough or stalls when warm (otherwise measured as half-way-to-work), then starts ok after cooling - replaced thermostat (p116 code on OBD II) first time, ran okay - then back to same thing. Replace oil & filter (again) before we start looking for a HG replacement? Many thanks for any and all helpful info -

Collant in oil can mean Head Gasket, but not necessarily. Did you not notice the coolant in the oil before the boyfriend changed the oil? Can not imagine what he could have done to cause this?

i dont know that you can mess up and oil change (no matter who you are) to the point where there is coolant in it.

so to start i wouldn't blame it on him... *sounds* like a head gasket. i would check the compression or do a leak down test.

...he was one of those 'you-can't-tell-me-anything' kinda' kids - I'm hoping he just put the oil filter on wrong (since he broke up with my daughter right after he did the oil change), but I know that the head gasket is the next suspect.... hoping for an easy fix for little $$ before we step up to the next level.... thanks!!

best thing to do i guess is re-do his work.

i forget is there coolant running through the the oil filter mount on these? i know on one of my cars the housing come lose from the center threads and it leaked coolant... not sure if Volvo's are the same way though.

My brother is a BMW know-it-all, he admits he's just guessing when it comes to Volvo, but he seems to think that the oil filter is cooled and that may be where the fluid is coming from - thanks again for all your suggestions -
