Default 17" wheels

My 1995 Red 854 Turbo is lusting after some Canisto's.
I found some nice Kumho AST's and I am wondering about the size.
It is true that the 225's will rub? The Kumho's are 205's any problems?

all insight welcomed. Thanks.

I run 215's on my 17" wheels. The 205's are what is called for by the factory and I have heard the 225's will rub quite a bit, but there are several who run them. I have Yokohamas and I'm not real crazy about them to tell the truth.

I have 15" Kumhos on my white car and 15" Michelins on my wagon. The Michelins are the better riding and better in the snow for sure. Not sure they are worth the difference in price when buying them though. Somehow I got a really good deal on the Michelins and when I tried to get another set for the same price for the white car, they would not even come close. The Kumhos seem like a real good tire for the money though.

We put 16" Mimas, with 205/55/16 on my sons 850 and there is still some room, although I'm not sure exactly how much. Specs call for a 205/45/17 tire with 17" wheels. I put 225/45/17 on with a set of Canisto's on my S60. I still have alot of room, but I'm sure the suspension makes a difference. If your suspension is lowered then they would most likely rub. If not it could be close. Your not going with that much wider of a tire so I think I would tend to go safe and stick with the 205's.

Quite a few more available in 215. That's why most people go with the 215.

Specs call for a 205/45/17 tire with 17" wheels.

I found some Volans.

The tires I found are the Kumho AST 205/50/17 any problems with a 50 instead of 45?

Thanks.

A 50 has more sidewall height so it will fill the wheel well more. This could lead to a higher chance of rubbing.

Going to throw your speedometer and oddometer off too. I would not go with 205/50/17 personally.

Ditto what JimKW says. Better to stick with the recommended tire.

Thanks.

215 is just 10mm wider than the 205. Specs call for 205. Wider tire (215) would run more of a chance of rubbing on full lock turns. I personally like a little wider tire. As long as you stay with a 45 sidewall then I think it is more of a personal preference at that point.

^Not really. Remember, the 45 isn't 45mm. It's 45% of the width of the tire.
