Default seatbelt stuck

I've just bee going over some of the posts and think this is a great site. I have a '95 850 turbo wagon (which is my third Volvo over the years). The problem: the rear seatbelt on the driver's side is stuck. I mean really stuck. Is there a "secret" little switch that will loosen it?

No there is not most of the time what you have to do is loosen the bottom part of the seat belt where it is bolted to the floor. Then let a little in and it should pull back out.
Most of the time they will lock when you are folding the seats down.
I reccomend pulling some out before folding.

Hi Tech,

Didn't have time to raelly look at it but it looks like I have to open it up somehow and see if there is a spring load that might be stuck. I'll keep you in touch.

If the seat belt is stuck tight to the seat and won't pull out once you loosen it from the bottom it should roll back up no problem.

Hi Tech,

Finally got a closer look at the seatbelt. By the way did I mention my 850 is a wagon? The belt is definitely stuck tight. There are some sort of plastic pop rivets around the casing and tried to "pop" them off without any success. Maybe they need to be drilled out to get at the mechanism. Any suggestions?

Did you get the belt loosened from the floor yet?
You need to take apart half of the seat and get all new clips to get to the seat belt.

There is no need as there is slack in the belt but it just will not un-click and roll out. Do I have to drill out those plastic pop rivets?

Ok on those clips the center of them should push out then you can remove the clips. You will have to replace them. The center peice falls into the seat.

Tech,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I've been away on work and will be able to get back to the car on the week-end.

This might save someone a few minutes, the bolt takes a 14mm socket. On my 1994 850 anyway.

I know this is an OLD post but I just tried this solution and it worked great. The dealer wanted $625 to replace this seatbelt, and it took me about 10 minutes to fix this myself with a 14mm wrench.
