Default Synthetics and oil change interval

All,

I've been wondering about switching to a high grade synthetic oil such as Royal Purple or Mobile 1 for the 95 850 Turbo. Now on my 02 Jetta, I can run full synthetics for a 10,000 mile oil change interval (granted it is a diesel). If I switched to a synthetic for the 850, could I reasonably go to a 10K oil change interval as well, or is that unreasonable? The longer interval would definitely make it more cost effective.

I've posted this over on the XC70 forum as well, as if I did it with the 850, I would do it with the wife's 01 XC70 as well.

Thanks,

Glenn

I just recently switched over to Mobil 1 synthetic on my 850. I use their 5W-30 Extended performance, they say it is gauranteed to protect for 15,000 miles. Quite amazing and almost unbelievable if you ask me. When i started using synthetic my buddys told me that you should change you oil within 3000 miles the first time using synthetic to flush the system or sumthing like that. If you go on the Mobile 1 site you can type in your make, model, year, and miles on you car and it will recomend the oil you should use. Mobil 1 extended performance is expensive but some people think its worth it. Also Mobil 1 makes alot of different synthetics that are cheaper.

How many miles on your 95? There are quite a few people who've switched to synth and had leaks shortly after. If you're doing fine with dino I'd stick with it and just change it every 3,000. Mobil 1 is great oil I agree but who cares if you can get 15000 out of an oil change? That just means I don't have an excuse to hang out in the garage, have a beer and change my oil.

If you do decide to switch to synth and change oil at 10K miles, make sure that you replace the oil filter every 2.5K miles.

Most folks are using Mobil-1 and are changing oil and filter at 5K miles.

I have switched all of my vehicles over to AMSOIL 10W30. When oil begins to look dirty, I replace it -- so I have been changing oil and filter at 4K miles. I prefer Hastings Premium air and oil (p/n LF490) filters.
