Volvo 850 no spark, not CPS or cam sensor
Hi, I have a 96 Volvo 850, it sitting for a while, it had problems starting but we got it going and then it would keep having problems starting and rough idle at first but worked perfectly while driving. Now after shutting it off and starting we have no spark at the ignition coil.we have replaced the CPS and samshaft positioning sensor wiring no dice. We have 20 volts coming out of the ignition coil, but the coil gets extremely hot after a few tries. Only 2 check engine lights for low input on MAF And high input on engine coolant temperature. We have a brand new battery in. To be clear before spark stopped totally we were getting solid spark. We have compression and the fuel pump is going. The car cranks, but doesn't start. We have tested damn near everything we can think of. The ground to the ignition coil is cleaned and undamaged. Any help at all would be life saving. We are out if ideas.

Check out https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...on-coil-48079/
and also Volvotips.com has good diagnostic info.
BTW, the output voltage of a car's coil is in the 20,000 volt range - not sure if that's what you meant to say.
If you have no spark, try a few things. First try locking/unlocking the car doors with the key fob to make sure the immobilizer is not on. Inspect the cap and rotor and coil wire (I had a coil wire fail with corrosion at a connection inside the rubber boot...) - consider replacing the coil wire. I've also seen caps crack, effectively creating a gap. See if the rotor spins when the engine cranks... My gut says you may need a new coil but its worth doing some quick investigations... Other ideas - check the Fuel injector relay (its up front by the radiator cowling). Did you try dropping some oil in the cylinders to help compression (ie lawn mower effect issue?) Let us know how you make out.
