Default After market sub install (sounds great)

Well last week i decided to beef up my sound system, i have the built in subs (free air) which are pants so decide to make a box to fit in the boot under the space where the roof comes down in to, first i found a sub and came across a JL Audio 10W1v2 which are awesome subs.

Here's where i started custom built the box:

In the back ground is an example of measure once cut once OOPS!!

Ive designed the sub to fit up behind the ski hatch which I'm modifying and having the arm rest down so it points through the hatch so hopefully will sound good in the cab

here's the start of the install heres some pics of how i did it:

Roof down ready to remove seats:

Seats out which reveals the standard subs:

Subs out and tapped into speaker wire to connect up high input to RCA converters:

Routed the power cable through here into the boot:

Boxed tightly fitted back in boot and mounted the new vibe amp to the back (box will be getting covered once i pick up the stuff):

Finished product roof down light comes on when the amp turns on to illuminate the sub:

Roof back up:

From out the front of the car:

The lights are wired up through a relay which is switched on using the same remote power that turns the amp on, i used 2 little strips of LED's from Halfords that are sticky back so just stuck one either side on the inside of the hatch.

great job
I must ask, what is your internal volume on that box?
just saying... it looks rather large for sealed.

... just looked it up. the spec calls for .625 cu. ft. for best quality you may want to consider lopping off the sides of the box. (could always just make panels that slide inside the opening)

it looks great, though!

Yep already clocked that it's now 0.7cu.ft I miss read the spec before and some how put a1 in front so my box was 1.7 ish cu.ft, it now sounds even better now it's the correct size I did as you have suggested and just chopped the sides down it's now I very near little box

HI, I am newby so please be nice.

I just got a C70 (2011 model). unfortunately it didnt come with factory subs.

* Is there any way I can install the factory subs? I guess i will need to install amps as well?
* how did the converstion from high level output to low level go, in the past this has always let me down. What convertor did you use?

thanks heaps

I'm not familiar with the C70 wiring, but the easiest way to add subs would be to do what you would do in any other car. Get a new head unit, and run power and signal to an amp and sub.

everything you need for that you can find here
Sonic Electronix Forums
Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers

you can probably just go to a salvage yard and find the parts you need, but going ahead and changing the head unit gives you more room for upgrading your speaker system as well

The Volvo factory sub will come with instructions for installation, also available online. Changing out the radio takes a good amount of work and is most likely not an option due to time and money. Aftermarket you could use a pac sni-35, but the nicest bass signal would be from a MTX req. The newer C70 has a completely different setup.
