power steering fluid leak
Tech, my winter beater still has a fluid leak in the steering system. The auto is under warranty and so IT WILL BE FIXED, but I have had it in twice. First the hoses were replaced. Then the resovoir was replaced. I truly use the auto as a winter beater and so it sits outside in the snow at home and at the airport. I cannot get under it to "look" for a leak but I am supposing the rack must have poor seals. What is your best guess? I would like to go back to the dealer with a "suggestion". I swear, the dealer is going to let me go another two years and then when the warranty is out they will find the expensive cause!

RE: power steering fluid leak
Nope. It is not leaking topside. By the same token, it is not a drip! I do not have a "puddle" in the drive. However, when it is driven about 200 miles....................the steering begins to whine and I know that it is thirsty and needs a fill. By the way, and for nice to know information, I ditched the summer tyres that the auto came equiped with and replaced them with 215 55 16 Continental Conti CH-95s. Absolutely night and day! No more wandering on the high way and excellent snow traction.

RE: power steering fluid leak
Well Tech.......................I now have a power steering pump! If I continue with a lean, the ONLY thing left to replace is the rack! I'll let you know if I continue to lose fluid...................meanwhile, I am not taking my can of fluid out of the trunk!

RE: power steering fluid leak
Well what is interesting is that unless I am mistaken, the pump is topside right above the alternator. There has never been oil anywhere topside...............you can eat off the engine. I have a feeling that the rack has issues but I will let you know if the pump was the culprit. Are you getting a little wet there in Florida???
