Default 2006 S40 shifter stops in neutral

Hello all,

I borrowed my sister's 2006 s40 automatic last night to jump my dad's car and after backing it out of the driveway the shift got stuck in neutral. I found out about the shift lock override and was able to get it out of neutral and pull it back into the garage for her, but I'm stuck as to the cause. I've checked fuses, removed the console and sprayed silicon lubricant on everything, initiated the override and moved the shifter back and forth, and ensured the shift button works fine but all to no avail.

I've searched around and most people seem to experience the shifter getting stuck in park, and this is usually a result of a spill. No spill has occurred and it pulls out of park fine.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm sure this would've happened the next time she drove it, but since it happened when I was behind the wheel I feel responsible. I took the day off of work to try and fix it, but I'm not getting anywhere.

Did you take a good look at the linkage on the transmission to make sure that nothing is obstructing the mech?
