2006 S40 2.4i = Key Stuck Issue
Hello everyone,
I have an 06 S40 2.4i with a couple of issues. The car was turned on and i was testing the fuses in the passenger compartment, trying to figure out which one was not working for the 12 volt charger that is next to the gear selector. I put the fuse compartment back together and in its place. When I went to turn the car off, the key turned the car off but wouldn't go back to the 0 position. The key turns all the way from I to the III positions with no problem but the car doesn't start. There is no crank or anything. The interior lights inside of the car work but the radio, the dash, and the headlights don't work in any of the positions. The steering wheel and the gear selector are locked in their positions. (The steering wheel how it was left and the gear selector in park.) I was able to unlock the parking brake but only using the shiftlock override. Everything was fine until the car was turned off and the key got stuck. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this or what's wrong with it?

Try moving the shift lever to the neutral position to see if the car starts. I know with the 2000-2004 models that when the shift lever button gets stuck it won't let the key move back to O no matter what the actual lever position. Not exactly sure with the 2004.5+ models but maybe something similar.
