Hi all , I'm a newbie . I have weird issues. So I'll try to explain in sequence. With trying not to leave anything out. I have a 2006 s40 no sunroof . Vehicle driving fine . Following morning went to start vehicle . Nothing happened on first attempt . No crank no start. On second attempt turning key on them off smoke started coming out around passenger side dash area & what appears to have been coming out under hood as well just below windshield . This made me nervous & got out . Disconnected battery. Called insurance. Was towed to a recommended shop. Who said cem was faulty. A week to get part .they could not code it . Sent to dealer. There are saying it's from aftermarket satellite radio wired into harmess. Yet it worked fine for a while. Dealer said it needed a body & engine harness amongst additional control units & couldn't be sure. It's now at another shop. Tech has showed me wiring for satellite radio that doesn't look like any problem to him has occurred from it. Tech has found the following items : dead battery to start which he has charged at the moment. Blown fuse #18 in engine area fuse box . Replaced fuse , no change. He checked cem module with no conclusions from it. He wants to see old cem which the other shop does not have now. He showed me what all its doing or not doing . The following : key in ignition & no dash . Intermittently will get message for key error try again message. In small display but no other lights go on in dash. Also following doesn't work : locks , windows, ac ( display ). Interior lights work glove box light works. Underhood can hear something running when key is in on position. He showed me scan of control units . He is not getting communication with engine ecm , dash gauges , cem , & many more. I don't know what to do . So I'm posting this to get input so I can give input to tech if possible to get car fixed as soon as. I can. I've searched what I thought was many threads & Web to get answers to better understand what could be going on . Vehicle has around 11k miles on it . Was owned by older person . Any & all info to get this fixed would be great.
