Is the S40 going to be killed?
Due to some things I have been reading, such as this one:
Volvo Cutting Loose S40 Sedan, V50 Wagon for 2012 Lineup - WOT on Motor Trend
I am kind of confused. Is the S40 going to dissapear? I understand that the S40 is a small compact sedan that is hard to categorize. Always thought it was a competitor for the 3 series and C class, but the other day the dealership´s manager told me that it is the S60 which can be compared to these sedans. But now, it seems it will be substituted by the V40.
I just purchased a 2011 S40, coming from a long history of BMW´s and having acquired a new A3 Sportback back in march. Didn´t liked it, though, a very small car, which doesn´t feel stable at high speeds and having a very "nervous" ABS system. Being used to bigger and heavier sedans, I traded it for the Volvo, and couldn´t be happier (I had a 1993 850 GLT some years ago, and loved the car, so this is not my first experience with Volvos).
If this is true, then it means that this excellent small sedan is going to be substituted for a vehicle which is essentially Volvo´s version of an A3 Sportback, 1 series or A Class...so it means that when I decide to upgrade, I would have the choice of going back to a hatchback (which I hate) or going up the foodchain and getting an S60, which would then be the "small sedan" on Volvo´s lineup.
Am I gettint all this wrong? It would be a pity to see the S40 killed, and I´ll be damned if I return to a hatchback. The A3 was an excellent car, but in the end didn´t liked the fact that it was a small vehicle and a hatchback. Would love to listen to some input on the subject. Cheers!
