2007 s40 replacement key
Hello,
I am trying to find the least expensive way to replace my key. The dealership quoted me over $300 for the key + programming. I noticed that there are keys for sale on ebay and various other places on the web that only cost $60-80, and wondered if anyone knew if they would actually work... I realize that I would need to pay to have it programmed either way, but don't really understand how there can be such a huge difference in price between ebay sellers and the dealership ($60 vs. $300). Does anyone know of a reputable, legitimate place to purchase the key besides the dealership?
Thanks.

The difference is dealer markup. For instance, IPD charges $185 for a fuel pressure sensor but my dealer charges $250.
Be careful though. Only a NEW key packaged with the proper codes will work. A used key from a junk car will not work because the codes are missing. After purchasing a new key you MUST have it programmed. Either by the dealer (mine charges $75 for this service) or by someone with VADIS, DiCE, and a subscription to the key programming module. I own VADIS and a DiCE but cannot get the subscription so I have to go to the dealer. Rumor has it you can buy a 3 day VADIS subscription but I've not seen that option.
EDIT: You still need the metal key cut....
