Default Central Locking

Hi I am new to your forum and hoping to get some help. I just bought a 2005 Volvo S40 2.4i and I am having some trouble with the central locking. When locking or unlocking with the remote or interior buttons the passenger side will not respond. They will manually lock and unlock with no problem, but not electronically. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Check your fuses. Below the glove box behind the fuzzy kick panel. Fuse #82 is pax front door window and lock and #63 is pax rear door window and lock.

Thanks for the tip. I checked the fuses and they are good. I guess my next step is to remove the door panel and check the actual connection?

Some of the early models had an issue with a connector in the door corroding and causing problems like this. I thought that there was a recall on this or at least a Tech Net Note.

Today I checked both connectors on the front and rear door. Both seemed fine. Any other ideas?

Check with a multimeter to see if power is reaching the door. If yes then check if using the switch produces power to the window motor.

Power is reaching the door and I am not sure what you mean with producing power to the window motor. Can you explain?

The window motor does not make any noise when hitting the lock switch.

Ok, I somehow mixed up your door locking problem with a door window problem. I apologize for that.

Just to clarify, the car will not unlock the pax side doors from any electrical means? Neither the driver's side switch, nor the individual pax door switches will unlock/lock the pax side doors?

Do the windows roll up and down normally?

Yes that is correct and the windows are fully functional.

Can someone explain how the door locks work? Does the power come through the drivers side switches? Or is there a central locking module separate from the switches?

I'm back in Shanghai without VIDA on this computer. Very frustrating. I've got to get a working version (2010C) for Windows 7. I recommend VIDA to all Volvo owners. You just have to be careful which version you buy as they are not all compatible with all windows versions. I've no clue about Macs.

Hey, new to the forums here. Just bought an '05 s40 t5 that is giving me a similar issue here. Drivers door will not lock electronically. Manual lock, although inconvenient, works fine. Whenever you hit the lock button on the FOB you can see the lock bit move, so it seems to be getting electrical feed. Also, the window motor works fine. Again, this is only on the drivers door, all other doors lock and unlock fine. Any thoughts? I still have a limited warranty although didn't buy it from a Volvo dealer so who know what they'll do if I can't tell them exactly what is wrong.
