Default Changing transmission fluid on 2001 s40

I read the related thread by volvos40s60 on transmission fluid for 2003 s40 dated Nov 2007.

have anybody tried to change transmission fluid themselves without going to dealer?

my owner manual mentioned about atf dexron III. somewhere in the above thread, it mentioned mobil atf 3309. are they same?

thanks.

In Australia, the Mobil 3309 comes only in 20 gallon drums. However, you can try Toyota Type-IV ATF. It is manufactured by Mobil for use by both Toyota/Lexus and Volvo for the 5 Speed Aisin Warner transmissions that we have. So ring around for the Toyota Type IV to see if its pricing is more competitive than Mobil's. Its definitely cheaper than the Volvo OEM.

Cheers,

Merrill
