Default ECM 640A camshaft reset valve fault signal

After having the oil pan, timning belt and water pump changed, dealer told me that car is throwing the 640A code which has to do with the camshaft reset valve.

Does that make sense? What could cause this code?

One of the cam gears being off a tooth could cause it. It's telling you that even with the cam fully advance or retarded that it is still too far out of adjustment. A clogged CVVT solenoid can also cause it. The clogged passages are not allowing the cam to move as commanded by the engine's computer.

Are you familiar with Continuous Variable Valve Timing? I posted a pic in your other thread showing the CVVT gear hub. The pic is from a 2001 model but the newer ones are similar.

I mentioned to teh dealer about the solenoid (I replaced the solenoid last year; the one with part number 36002687). I mentioned that the solenoid prob needed to be cleaned. But he said that with the computer they can control the solenoid and found no problem with it.

They replaced the timing belt so I also mentioned that it could be one tooth off but he said they checked it. So he said the VVT actuator (sprocket) needed to be changed since that's the only thing they can think of that's causing the check engine at this point since this code was stored in the system and they turned it off and after about 5 minutes driving, it came back.

So what's a sprocket??

So now it's throwing a P0026 code on the regular scanner 'Intake control valve solenoid bank 1'

i'm thinking it's the camshaft valve that's gunked up or something. Also notice a lack of power when i accelerate.

For the amount of money you paid I'd demand the dealer get it right. Sounds like the CVVT solenoid on the intake cam. Just a guess.

Yes last time I had this code was last year and I changed he intake camshaft solenoid valve and it was fixed but i think the vavle went bas because of the issues that I had lately with the car plus switching to full synthetic oil. I normally had regular 5w30 put in there. So probably sludged up.

So time for another camshaft intake valve.

Would that cause my fuel mileage to decrease? I have seen a higher than normal gas consumption since I had this code.

Unfortunately the dealer who fixed my car in about 2 hours away and for a part costing $119, he would probably charge me 1 hour to install so another $210. These valves can be changes in 15-20 minutes and I know that for a fact. But of course what do we simple people know? They know it all better than us right?

Solenoid valve changed and code went away. No more lack of acceleration.

Part number 36002687. Paid $119 after core swap.
