Engine stalling seconds after starting
What gives? My S40 is a 2005 T5 and it has been great. 130,000 kms and now the engine starts easy but stalls out soon after. I can't even get out of my garage. No engine light or any other indicator comes on. I was thinking maybe a fuel filter or maybe even a fuel pump but it has been hard to find any information on either of these. Any ideas?

Does it stay running if you press the gas pedal the whole time, and die if you let off of the pedal completely? If so then you might just need to clean your throttle body. This has happened to me a few times (in a ford) and gunk builds up around the resting position of the butterfly valve (throttle plate), and when that gets to be too much it chokes the engine at idle, but openeing the valve even slightly and the engine will run normaly.
Beyond that have you checked the basics? plugs, wires, air filter?

Check your fuel pressure. The 2005 model has a fuel pressure sensor instead of a fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure is controlled via voltage to the fuel pump and when the sensor fails you get strange behavior.
The throttle body is electronic too. "Drive by wire" Oh goody, more things to go wrong.

Late Update
The issue was with the key. The dealership told me it probably needed to be recoded because it sounds like the car was engaging the immobilizer. Luckily I just used my spare key which worked fine. Then for some reason the original key started working again. Electronics are stupid.
