I want to buy your dead VVT pulley
If you have a dead VVT pulley from your '00 to '04 S40 or V40 I want to buy it.
Why? Don't ask. I've set out down a path and now I can't get off. I want to figure out how they work and why they fail and I need a decent size sample - say 10 pulleys - to work with.
I will PayPal $7.00 to you to cover the cost of shipping in a Priority Mail small flat rate box and when it arrives I'll send another $15.00.
If you work in a Volvo shop and have a bucket of them, please PM so we can work something out.
The pulley is Volvo part number 6900015, marked on the pulley.

Hey Migbro - were you able to follow-up on the repair procedure you had in mind for the S40 hubs and confirm the oil passage blockage. I know some complain about returning P0015 after a year or two but I assume the oil passage blocks again on a new hub. Sorry to revise an old thread but still have my S40. Thanks!

Thanks mt6127.
I decided to take off the VVT solenoid valve on my 04 1.9T S40, and give it a good clean as well as the tiny screen on the gasket. I have lived with the P0015/CEL light for years.
With the valve off and applying 12 volts, it would click on/off BUT as it turns out the plunger was not moving at all (had to separate the valve from the body to see if it was moving, which it wasn't). Took it apart and of course the plunger didn't want to fall out so used a 12-24 tap and a few threads to grip it and tapped it out while holding the other end of the tap secure in a vice.
Cleaned all the parts with varsol, lightly oiled plunger/spring and put it back together. Wouldn't you know it, the plunger is moving nicely with 12 v applied on/off. Put it all back together and made numerous trips with engine on/off and Boom - NO P0015. I almost can't believe it as for sure the CEL would have been turned on after a couple of trips. Morale of the story - don't assume the valve is working if it's clicking.
Was also getting a P0420 randomly and just recently got the P0455 (Evap Big leak). Checked the hoses/gas cap but all fine and had a spare Evap purge valve in the trunk that I picked up off a wrecked car (among other parts). Exchanged the purge valve mounted on top of the rad and both P0420 & P0455 are gone. Passing on the success I had with minimal cost. If you are getting the P0420, it could be related to the purge system. Car is running like a top. Next thing to tackle is a typical broken spring.
Cheers and happy motoring.
