Default Installing a aftermarket radio

Does anybody know the exact procedure for installing a aftermarket radio in a 2003 S40. After a few wrong wire harnesses, finally got the right one. Which mind you apperantly companys do not list the right harness for my car.???? I eventually found the right one under a S80. Its a HU 655. The wire harness is connected to the Aftermarket radio and all i get is a little sound out of the tweeters in the dash. The same sound when i unpluged the "amplifier signal" cable out of the stock radio when it was still hooked up. I realize now the stock amplifier needs a bypass or a conversioncable of some sort. But where do i find this. Countless hours searching the internet found nothing. I just dont understand the factory set up. Why are there speaker wires coming from the stock radio and a signal wire, which im assuming is like a RCA output to the stock amp????? I installed a lot of aftermarket radios in my time and this is by far the most difficult. My past car was a 96 Merc Benz C280 with a 6 spkr bose sound system. Bought the harness, which worked by converting the car spkr wires to RCA to plug into the pioneer. This enabled the stock set up to be completely utilized. If theres anybody out there who knows Volvos better then me plese help. Im losing my mind.

It is a pain but you will mmanually have to bypass it.
You will have to locate the amp and bypass the wiring.

I checked out the wire clip goin from the amplifier and identified what wires go to what speakers. And figured out ill have to run speaker wires from the back of the pioneer to those. One more question, where do the speaker wires go from the back of the factory radio go? They indeed do not go to the amplifier soooo??? I understand radios to work as RCA, (or equilivent), go to the amp then speaker wires to the speakers. This system if different. Anyone know how its wired? I figure crossovers might be involved so that might be it.

Never had one apart but there should be a din or something like that that goes from the radio to the amp. Then speaker wires from there.

I just installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2003 v40. I put RCA jacks in place of the 6pin DIN connector. Cut the connector off, then remove several inches of the insulation to expose the wires. The Pink wire is the 12v signal to turn the amp on, splice it to the blue/white amp on wire from the stereo. It uses 4 positive wires for the speaker and a common negative. Connect the brown wire (negative) to the negative terminals of all 4 RCA jacks. Connect each of the other 4 wires to the positive terminal of the RCA jacks. White is Left Front, Grey is Right Front, Green is Left Rear, and Yellow is Right Rear. I did not have rear speakers but had left and right subwoofers. Connect the shield wiring that covers the individual wires to the ground screw on the stereo.

Maybe something like this would work? Volvo DIN jack converted to RCA plugs going to the aftermarket HU? I may try this part myself for my own 2003 S40.

You need a CAN adapter to retain all the OE features.
Something like this:
CRUX SWRVL-54 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain the factory amp and steering wheel audio controls in select 1999-2012 Volvo models at Crutchfield.com
