The Dorman drain plug would be the way I would go too.
Simple and quick solution to such a problem.

That comes straight from your imagination. Metal grit in the pan? Then the way you change your oil is the least of your worries.

It's not a problem I have myself fortunately but some have the misfortune to find fine gritty matter down there and in the plug recess.

I've got a little neodymium magnet on the drain plug. I think of it as an early warning system. There's a little peace of mind finding that come out clean when I drain the oil.
