Question Question? "Bulb Failure: Rear Fog Light"

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Volvo about a week ago. [2005 Volvo S40 T5]

Have really been enjoying the car so far, but have one "Information" light on the dash right now with the following message: "Bulb Failure: Rear Fog Light". This is the first car I've owned that has a Rear Fog Light. Can I just replace the Fog Light Bulb with one from most Automotive shops?

I am new to Volvo's completely so I am trying to gain more knowledge as well about them.

Thank you!

That is what I would do. I also have a 2005 but have never replaced this particular bulb. You can always get the more expensive dealer version if the aftermarket version does not turn out the trouble message.

Why bother with an expensive bulb especially as the rear foglight is seldom used.
Ive never ever needed it.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I never bothered replacing it yet as I actually haven't used it since I've bought the vehicle. As difflock54 mentioned, the rear fog light is seldom used. I will get it replaced in the future though. Just wanted to get various people's opinions on whether I go Aftermarket or to the Dealer for something like this.

It should be just a standard bulb. That being said, I've heard of people getting this warning intermittently without even actually having a bulb being burnt out. Let us know if replacing the bulb fixes it!

Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time since I've been on the Volvo Forums. Just had my Volvo S40 over to the dealership because of a "Check Engine" light that came on. Apparently there wasn't anything wrong with my car mechanically but it did need to have the Firmware/Software Updated. Once this was updated, I haven't had the "Check Engine" light come on or the "Bulb Failure: Rear Fog Light" message either. Volvo said all the bulbs are working and none are burnt.

Thank you for your assistance!
