remote doorlock
I cannot operate my remote door locks. I was told to check the battery in my key. Okay, but that does not explain the red light not blinking on the car itself. it is located on the dashboard on the upper passenger side just below the windshield. Is there a direct way to finish this?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see any contradiction between "I cannot operate my remote door locks." and "the red light not blinking on the car itself."I believe the red dashboard light confirms that the car is locked (along with the lock buttons dropping on all doors). If your fob doesn't have enough battery power to activate the system, none of the system will activate.
First check is to replace the battery. If you still have two fobs, do they both have trouble? AFIK, the car should send a "Replace your remote's battery" message if it is detected as weak.

Remote receiver
Okay, then where is the receiver on a 2002 Volvo s40 that unlocks the car doors when I press unlock on the remote attachment to my key?
I thought it had to be the flashing red light on the right side on the dash just inside and under the windshield.
Now I am not so sure.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The red light is a signal that the system is armed. The term of art for the unit that receives the remote's signal is "VGLA." On this car, it is behind the radio panel in the center.
VIDA says:

Resetting remote control
Note! If the remote control buttons are pressed in too many times without establishing contact with the receiver in the car, the remote control loses functionality and must be reset.
Ignition off
Remove the key from the ignition switch
Close the doors and the sun roof/hood.
Press a button on the remote control three times in 5 seconds.
The remote control is now reset.
Try to lock the car using the remote control.
Is the car locked?

Replace the batteries in the remote control.

If you had VIDA going, you could follow the various repair threads to track this down.

The keyfob battery is fine, but remote does not work
Okay after trying a lot of things, I put new batteries in my 2002 Volvo s40 key fob. It still will not remotely lock or unlock my Volvo s40 car.
I am not sure what to do now.
BTW what is the correct way to lay the CRS 2032 battery in the key fob. I took mine out to check it on a battery tester: it was fine. Is it the plus side on the same side as the fob buttons or is it the reverse.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
