Default s40 1.9t automatic transmission problem

automatic transmission...from park to reverse the is a big klunk and the same from drive to reverse. The transmission fluid is full but dirty. It has been sitting for two years..reverse works as do all the other gears although its a bit sluggish...

An urgent drain and fill procedure on the transmission would be good starting point especially if very dirty and has sat for that long unused.
Assuming its a 5 speed use only a JWS. 3309 spec'd fluid only.
The Dex III or IV is okay for a 4 speed.
You will need to repeat the drain/fill process about 3 times to get the fluid looking a new clean red colour.
Do approx' 100 miles or so between each fill.

The Toyota Type IV has had good results on the nedcar from the various threads I've seen. Just make sure you do it with the above interval procedure. Drain and fill would be recommended to not shock the system from a full on flush.

Also check the lower engine mounts. Easy to see any movement by getting someone to hold the brakes and move from P to N to R... and you looking up under the car. I was getting clunking on downshifts and aggressive upshifts. It was my lower mounts.

Thanks for this. I've got a similar problem on a 2000 S40. Found fluid below 'low'. Top up seemed to ease things but will go for drain and refill asap.

Default lost part in accident

I have lost the outside sensor/control that is near the water bottle at the front bumper, I believe this is the part that will re-activate my heater and ac controls at the dash is this right I hope. I am curious what that is called there are a lot of wires to this Sensor/control. Thanks sea91406 https://volvoforums.com/forum/images...s/confused.gif
