s40 2011

I just got volvo s40 2011 and the key is stuck on ignition and have tried everything had to leave car on ignition

A couple of things come to mind. Faulty gear shift sensor or PNP switch on trans or the switch itself. Also I believe you need your foot on the brake pedal but I could be wrong about that.

The button on shifter on mine sticks
makes sure its all The way out.
Had to wd40 the plastic

stuck in the ignition switch or stuck in the ignition on position??

Assume you mean stuck in the switch - so 1) make sure the steering wheel is not cranked to the side (putting pressure on the steering lock) 2) unlock the shifter (key on position, brake on, if needed use/pop out the unlock button.) 3) try the shifter row (top to bottom 20X) to clean the PNP sensor contacts.
