S40 Fuel Filter Location
Hi,
I know this sounds ignorant, but can anyone tell me where to find the Fuel Filter on a 2005 S40 2.4? I have looked under both plastic access panels on the undercarriage below the rear seats, and I sure can't find a filter there. I have also traced the lines from the fuel rail and they appear to go to the top side of the fuel tank. I've also looked for an access panel under the foam forms in the trunk and under the sound deadening material under the rear seats. I know Volvo makes a bit of a sport of hiding the filters (cabin, oil), but this one has me stumped.
Thank you!

Hiding the fuel filter
Thanks, 65mustang - but I must say, I sure hope you're wrong . Inside the fuel tank would be a really nasty place to hide the filter, though I have to admit it would be quite the clever place where I was unlikely to look.
I have tried to search in the forum on everything that I could think of, but everything I found seems to be applicable to the pre 2005 designs only.
Why, oh why, would they put a fuel filter (filter, two clamps, on a hose, simple easy thing) inside of the actual fuel tank????

Thanks
Thank you again, 65mustang. I agree the forum is only as good as the people in it, and your replies are appreciated.
I'll try calling the dealer and see if they are willing to offer any assistance, though I understand that repairs are how they principally make their money. I sure do wish there was somewhere an illustrated parts breakdown for Volvo's could be found, as that would provide an easy answer.
That said, if it actually is IN the fuel tank, that would be one of the most retarded engineering decisions I've ever heard of, espcially seeing as how there's ample room under the plastic wind panels on the undercarriage to have simply mounted it in a splice in fuel line there. It seems likes filters, by their very nature, should always be in an accessible location since they are routine consumable maintenance items. Go figure.
