S40 started idling funny, then wouldnt drive. Threw code for ECM....
Hey guys.
My sister has a 2005 Volvo S60.
I haven't seen this myself but this is how she explained it to me:
Yesterday it was idling erratically, RPMs going up and down. Today it was idling terrible and wouldn't drive over 5 MPH. Eventually just died trying to drive it around the block.
The car was towed to a Swedish car expert to claimed that the ECM has failed (car threw code for ECM 3 times in a row) and that she should take it to the Volvo dealer. They also told her that they can possible re-flash it, and if that doesn't work, then she can expect to pay around $1000 for an ECM installed.
I'm wondering if there are any common problems or easy fixes I should look for? Idle control valve? Perhaps some sensors to look for?
Also, is a 2005 S40 compatible with a standard OBDII scanner? That's the only diagnostic tool I have.
