Default Where comes this oil leak?

Howdy!

I'm preparing to change the time belt in my '05 S40 (close to the 120k miles), but some oil leak is appearing by the actual time belt cover side. Is this because some camshaft seal? see the image at https://1drv.ms/i/s!AFEccIt5Q1M3iE0

It happens the same thing in the older 2000 S40, we change the seals but never stops the leak.

Any ideas?

I came here with posting a similar thread, I have the same thing going on but my timing belt and seals were done about 37,000 miles ago, I do not want to take away from your thread but maybe combining would not be a bad idea.

The amount of oil looks minimal, I have the same around my VVT solenoid but is dry almost like yours, however down below I have what made me think it was my rack, with a lot of oil and some over oil pan. My gears under timing cover and belt are dry.

I will wait for you to reply if it is ok if I post some pics because I do not want to hijack your thread but also do not want redundancy.

VVT hub is very common to fail and puke oil on the 4 cylinder 40 series

Thanks!

Then is the VVT pulley, the intake right?

Also I realize that you have a website link to buy parts like this one, it is right?

Wouldn't it be the exhaust?, thought it was this one that has the oring seal that goes bad. I have an 03 so that may be different.

Well, the exhaust usually only uses the seal which comes in the timing belt kit, the cam seal. But the pulley don't have any o-ring because the oil don't go inside the body of the pulley itself. Then if you have oil leak in the exhaust is enough with the cam seal, by the way is not the same than the intake seal...
