Default 2003; Connecting Rod Bearings question

I recently purchased a new set of rod bearings for my Volvo, attached are the new bearings seated in the rod. Should there be that 3mm (1.5mm centered) gap? (Pushed to the left for example) It was like that with the stock bearings also. It just seems odd that there's that much left over room.

Regards,

The rod bearings on my 01 had a tang on the bearing that centered the bearing in the rod and the cap. But to answer you question the bearings aren't the full width of the cap. I assume it's to allow for the radius on the crank journal.
